2017 Gulf 12 Hours / Sporting and technical outlines.

The promoters of the Gulf 12 Hours have released the preliminary sporting and technical blueprints of the 7th edition of the Gulf 12 Hours, scheduled at Yas Marina Circuit on 16 December 2017. The traditional race format, based on two 6-hour parts, remains unchanged but cars’ and drivers’ categorisation have been slightly updated.

EVENT DATE AND LOCATION

14-16 December 2017, Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

RACE FORMAT

Two parts of 6 hours each. During the 2-hour break teams can work on the cars.

The race interruption has the same effect as a safety car: gaps are equalised but the number of laps covered are carried forward to the second part of the race. Rolling starts in 2 lines.

CARS CLASSES AND CATEGORIES

GT Pro-Am (GT3, Renault RS01)
GT Gentlemen (GT3, Renault RS01, Lamborghini Super Trofeo)

GTX2 Gentlemen (Aston Martin Vantage GT4, Maserati Granturismo MC, Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport)
LMP3 Gentlemen (subject to agreement with ACO)

No other classes/categories allowed (e.g. – GTX1, GTX2 and LMP3 driver crews can only be formed by ‘Gentlemen’, not by ‘Pro’ or ‘Pro-Am’ driver crews)

The team’s Refuelling Crew is made up of three (3) or four (4) team members depending on the fuel filler arrangement of the car plus one (1) lollipop man

The three (3) crew members are: a refueller, a fire extinguisher attendant and a fuel valve operator.  If a car has the breather vent on the opposite side to the fuel filler then one (1) additional crew member must carry out the refuelling to operate the breather taking the total from three (3) to four (4) crew plus one (1) lollipop man.

IMPOSED PIT STOP MINIMUM TIME

The imposed minimum-time pit stop (including the refuelling time) is 130 seconds and it applies to all cars.

REFUELLING SYSTEMS

Teams must bring their own refuelling equipment. The authorised systems are: (A) fuel rigs meeting FIA standards or (B) handheld refuelling bottles containing up to 25 litres of fuel. Any bottle used must include a vent system compatible with the dry break system on the car and conform to FIA Appendix 252 – Article 9.5. The 98-octane fuel will be provided by the event promoter.
